RULES & CONDUCT - BACKGROUND CHECK

Background checks are essential to protecting the safety and security of youth sports/activities and should always be a first step.

Background Check Requirements for MBJJF Membership

· Why does the Mauritius Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation require a background check?

The background check is part of the Federation’s effort to enhance the safety of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners both within academies and tournaments.

· Who needs to provide their background check?

All athletes, instructors, referees, members, staff and volunteers applying for membership with the Mauritius Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (MBJJF) are required to undergo a background check.

· How to validate your background check?

Applicants must provide a moral and good conduct certificate issued by a legally recognised body to validate their background check.

Disqualifications based on Background Check

A person will be disqualified and prohibited from serving as a volunteer, professor, or certified Black Belt with the Federation if they have been found guilty of any of the following crimes:

  • · Rape
  • · Any kind of larceny
  • · Swindling
  • · Assaults (depending on the circumstances)
  • · Any offense committed under the Dangerous Drug Act of Mauritius

For the purposes of this policy, a person is considered guilty if they have been found guilty following a trial, entered a guilty plea, or entered a no contest plea accompanied by a court finding of guilt, regardless of the adjudication. Additionally, individuals who have received court-directed programs in lieu of a conviction are also regarded as guilty. This broad definition ensures that any form of legal determination or agreement indicating guilt is considered when assessing eligibility.
