RULES & CONDUCT - ANTI-DOPING

The Mauritius Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (MBJJF) is opposed to the practice of doping in sport on ethical and medical grounds and embraces the concept of fair play as a fundamental value integral to sport. Sport without doping is a key component of fair play that demonstrates respect, integrity, and honesty to the sport, oneself, and others. The Federation recognises the importance of clean competition and has taken a proactive stance in implementing an anti-doping program on behalf of clean athletes and the integrity of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The use, possession and/or trafficking of prohibited substances, methods, or the encouragement or counselling to use prohibited substances, or methods, and/or taking measures to mask the use of prohibited substances, or methods by any participant in competitions over which the MBJJF has jurisdiction is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

The MBJJF is in full support of the National Anti-Doping Organisation of Mauritius (NADO Mauritius) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) mission to lead a collaborative worldwide movement for doping free sport and abides by the provisions of the World Anti-Doping Code (“Code”) and World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List (“Prohibited List”).

In engaging the National Anti-Doping Organisation of Mauritius (NADO Mauritius) to conduct doping control at the MBJJF events, the Federation has taken the important step to externalise the anti-doping at this event to an independent organisation. To ensure complete independence and provide the highest level of protection for the rights of clean athletes, NADO Mauritius is wholly responsible for the collection of samples, sample analysis, sample results management, and, when necessary, the adjudication of any positive test results from the tests executed during the MBJJF events.

The MBJJF Anti-Doping Policy aims to:

  • Promote Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a drug-free sport
  • Uphold and preserve the ethics of sportsmanship
  • Ensure that all athletes have an opportunity to compete equally
  • Safeguard the physical health and mental health of athletes
  • Encourage Affiliate Federations to execute similar regulations with their athletes.

To better support athletes and ensure a positive experience with MBJJF’s adoption of WADA’s anti-doping policies, the MBJJF Anti-Doping Policy will adhere to the following steps:

Step 1.: Awareness & Outreach The Federation will promote a social awareness campaign that aims to promote the value of fair play and the importance of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu without doping for the integrity of our sport.

Step 2.: Education & Prevention The Federation will develop education programs that aim to educate athletes, coaches, and other members of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community with the dangers of doping, anti-doping procedures, athlete’s rights & responsibilities in the doping control process, and the legal & social ramifications of doping

Step 3.: Implementation & Enforcement The Federation will implement the doping control procedures of the MBJJF Anti-Doping Policy and enforce restrictions and/or sanctions resulting from an athlete found to have a positive test and who has undergone the adjudication process. The adjudication process shall provide athletes with a full due process and confidentiality while the case is pending.
